Detailed 3 Days Kariba Sailing Safari (Self-Drive Add-on)
Day 1: Embark Sail Boat Kariba Beach
Embark your personal multi-hulled (stable) yacht at our beach and set sail (or motor) up to Sampakaruma Island. Stop for a swim in the middle of the lake to cool off. Moor up in a secluded cove for the balmy evening and sleep on deck or on the island under the stars in the balmy nights.
N.B.
1. This is a participatory trip, you will be expected to help sail the boat under the guidance of your very experienced skipper, this is half the fun of being in the Kariba Navy, so get stuck in and enjoy it. A proper old-school Zimbo holiday, huge fun for the right type of guest.
2. Sailing & route subject to weather conditions at the sole discretion of your skipper based on his assessment of current and forecast weather, although these are seldom adverse in the dry season. Plan B is camping at Warthogs Bush Camp.
3. Have a few beers but if you are planning a binge, rather take a houseboat!

Main Destination: Matusadona National Park
Accommodation: Kariba Private Catamaran

Day 2: Cruise Kariba Lake
Sail across the Eastern Basin from Sampakaruma island to Sanyati Gorge on the Matusadona National Park Shoreline, either tacking with the wind or under power between Rhino and Long Islands then past Spurwing island. Wide open spaces to the lake horizon with the Matusadona Mountain range running into infinity in the distant blue haze. Motor up into the spectacular Sanyati gorge. Game & bird-view or fish for Tiger Fish or Bream on the Matusadona Bank whilst waiting for the afternoon sun to finish baking the opposite bank, then cross the river and tie up in a secluded cove and spend the evening in splendid isolation.
The sun will hit you later on the left bank and you will get the chance to climb the mountain bank on the Gache Gache side to take in the views up the gorge from above. This is an adventure for hands-on people who want to learn and are not shy to roll up their sleaves and do new things. If that is not you, seriously, [lease rather take a houseboat.

Main Destination: Matusadona National Park
Accommodation: Kariba Private Catamaran
Mid-range safari houseboat located inside Matusadona NP

Day 3: Return to Kariba Harbor & disembark
Another day dawns in paradise as you are awoken on the decks to the dawn chorus of hippos grunting and birdsong echoing through the gorge. Set sail early for Kariba Town, aiming to disembark early-mid-afternoon. N.B. You must book overnight accommodation in Kariba Town this evening as same-day onward travel will be impossible as we cannot guarantee a set disembarkation time due to the nature of sailing. Vessel has a motor in case of totally unfavorable winds but you do not want to be in a rush to reach shore the last day, rather savor the sailing.
